COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions forced us to stop packing Buddy Bags, but sadly, the need for them hasn’t stopped.
Buddy Bags are wonderful, comforting backpacks packed by volunteers with love and filled with items like pyjamas, toothbrush and toothpaste, and a teddy bear. They’re given to children who arrive in emergency care with nothing and aim to show children they are cared for and loved. They also help restore a sense of security, which is one of the vital first steps to recovery.
Due to the restrictions in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to stop packing Buddy Bags, but thankfully we are back in business.
Sadly, the need for the program continues. In fact, the need for Buddy Bags is greater than ever as there has been an increase in the incidence of domestic violence during the pandemic.
A Buddy Bag is more than just the items in it. It gives a child things that are for them to keep, things of their own, that they don’t have to leave behind. Through your gifts you give comfort to children who may be scared and deeply distressed. You show them kindness. You help introduce some certainty into their disrupted lives.
Unfortunately, we know there are many children in our community who need a Buddy Bag.
And thanks to you they will receive one.
