A postponed Run Melbourne isn't stopping Silvio

in News

COVID-19 has put a damper on this year’s Run Melbourne but that hasn’t stopped Silvio Marinelli. While the main event has been postponed until November, Silvio is still running a half-marathon or 21.1ks on 26 July to raise money for his favourite charity, the Alannah & Madeline Foundation.

This will be the fourth year the avid Tigers fan has participated in Run Melbourne and, in that time, he’s raised more than $42,000 for the Foundation.

“I started fundraising about a month ago and, so far, I’ve raised more than $6,500,” Silvio, a partner in Melbourne firm Highview Accounting & Financial, says.

“Realistically, I’d love to get to $10,000. If I get to $10,000, I’d be wrapped!”

Silvio feels deeply about the Foundation because he remembers the Port Arthur tragedy.

“I remember it happening very clearly and it always moved me a great deal. So, when I had the opportunity to meet Walter Mikac at Richmond Football Club’s dedicated match day for the Foundation, it tied everything together for me,” he says.

“Being able to contribute to the Foundation’s Buddy Bags program, the cyber safety programs and Dolly’s Dream means a great deal. For me to be able to play a small part and to be able to contribute to keeping children safe is very rewarding. It’s good for the soul.”

But it’s also good for Silvio’s physical being, as well! “I’ve been doing a bit of running and trying to be a bit smarter with my diet.

“I reached my PB of 2:39 in my second year and if I come in under 2:50 this year, it would be great. I’m running with my personal assistant, Aaron Straughair, and one of my clients, Levi Maxwell. Levi is a professional triathlete, so I’m sure he’ll keep us in line!”
