One of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation’s newest projects, Improve Your Play is looking for young people aged 15-19 years to help us create it.
Thanks to an Office of the eSafety Commissioner grant, we are exploring ethical and appropriate ways for young people to engage in relationships and intimate activity in the online world. Our focus will be on young men, who often find this space a difficult one and can easily make mistakes and find navigating their way through establishing and maintaining relationships in a digitally saturated world really hard.
Initially, bringing together two small groups of young men and women, we are hoping to better understand how to talk about these issues. We want to learn more about the real concerns and challenges for young women when engaging with young men online. At the same time, we want to understand what young men are hoping for when they engage with young women online and through social media.
Through a series of workshops and interviews, we aim to design a larger program to engage more than 250 young men to help us develop both an ethical framework for how to engage in intimate ways online and help shape a social media campaign to deliver positive and behaviour-changing messages.
Our goal is to encourage more trust, respect and care in our young people online as they navigate that awkward and difficult move into a world where intimate relationships become a big part of their life.
If you know a young person who would like to contribute to this important piece of work, or would like to know more, fill in our expression of interest form and we will be in touch.
