Can you imagine being 4 years old and begging your kinder teacher to let you live with them because you’re too afraid to go home? Or being a child who’s never been hugged and instead flinches away at the slightest movement, always scanning for danger and threats, because your first 4 years of life have been filled with fear and trauma?
These behaviours can be incredibly confronting for teachers and carers who may have never experienced this before. Early years teachers and carers of children like this need assistance and support to understand and manage these distressing behaviours. These kids need a special type of love and attention, and carers who are skilled at spotting when behaviour is the product of fear.
The effects of trauma on our littlest children can make it difficult for them to learn, make friends and develop positive relationships with teachers, and its impact can last a lifetime.
With your support, we need to raise $219,027 for our Early Years Trauma Consultancy (TraCS) program to work with early years educators and children’s families.
Your gift will help early years educators learn ways to recognise and respond to traumatised children and to provide assistance to families of children at risk.
