Susan's Story

Story nine – Susan

“My husband was so controlling, he wouldn’t let me and the kids leave. And that’s when he tried to kill me. Literally, he tried to kill me. That was in front of the kids. They were the ones who called the police. He was arrested and I was taken to hospital. I felt so helpless and ashamed that I couldn’t even look after my own children.

I’ve no family here so I had no choice but to have others care for my children. They had nothing with them when they left and were terrified. I think that hurt more than what my husband did to me.”
