"I see horrific effects of violence, abuse and neglect on children. Many of them have witnessed the darkest side of human behavior and had their sense of safety, happiness and innocence compromised.
When I meet them, they are often overwhelmed, vulnerable and sometimes very hard to be around, changed by the things they have experienced. I don’t want one child to grow up thinking violence towards another person is OK. I don’t want one child to grow up thinking they deserved a childhood filled with pain or to grow up thinking no one cared enough to step in.
I see the difference it makes to a child when someone tells them that what happened to them was not OK and that there are people in this world who care about them."
