| ceo - Dr Judith M. Slocombe
Dr Judith Slocombe is passionate about giving back to the community and it was this passion that saw her bring her strong leadership ability to The Alannah and Madeline Foundation.
Judith’s career spans many roles: veterinarian, entrepreneur, business owner, senior manager within a large corporate and in the not-for-profit sector as well as non-executive roles with a variety of organisations.
Judith graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Melbourne, and after practising in Australia and overseas, commenced a small veterinary pathology business from home. She went on to create a completely new business model which redefined Veterinary Pathology in Australia and she grew her small business into the largest veterinary diagnostic group in Australasia. In 2001 she sold the business and has since held a number of senior executive roles including managing a major medical pathology business operating in Australia and overseas, with a budget of over $250m and over 2000 staff.
In 2001 Judith received Australia’s most prestigious award for women in business: the Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year. Judith graduated with an MBA from the Melbourne Business School in 2002 and in 2003 was awarded the Centenary Medal.
Judith also holds numerous directorships. She is Chairman of the Lort Smith Animal Hospital, a director of Agriculture Victoria Services, a member of the Board of Directors of Open Universities Australia, and is a recent past director of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and VicHealth.
Judith leads The Foundation which has a committed and dedicated team of employees, hundreds of volunteers and organises a multitude of annual fundraising events – the most renowned of which is the Starry Starry Night gala charity ball.
Judith’s vision for The Alannah and Madeline Foundation is to give the many innocent children that have been hurt by violence a safe and happy childhood. |
