The Alannah and Madeline Foundation's Children365 calendar offers people practical ways they can engage with children throughout the year.

December is giving and sharing month. Check out our top 10 activities for the month.

1. Surprise!

Surprise someone in your family with a 'gift' each week of December, from buying something new, to hand-making delights to helping out simply by doing extra chores.

2. Share your love – a table is best shared

Invite someone who you know is on their own to share a meal with your family. Share a few of your favourite things with those around the dinner table. It could be a joke, a film or book, a place or a story.

3. Get creative

Create your own greeting cards to send to friends.  Let them know how special they are to you.

or

make a collage depicting the last year.  Include things you've done with someone - or the family - using words, drawings, places, food and events as your inspiration.  Give the final product as a gift or find a spot for it to hang at home.

8. For someone in need

Give a present to someone less fortunate than yourself. Consider giving a Buddy Bag in lieu of a gift and truly make a difference to a child in emergency accommodation. You don't have to spend a lot; it really is the thought that counts.

9. Special times

Spend time with someone you care about and spoil them.  Make the day entirely their choice.

10. Toys to treasure

Choose a toy that hasn't been played with for a while and donate it to a worthy cause.  The new owner will love it.
