Teaching kids about cybersafety

Cybersafety education expert Mandy Ross believes cybersafety education for all children and young people should be an integral part of a schools approach to this serious issue.

Ms Ross is the School Services Manager of the Cybersafety and Wellbeing Initiative at The Alannah and Madeline Foundation. She will be speaking about the opportunities and risks to young people using the internet at the National Centre Against Bullying conference on April 9-10.

On 10 March students from Surfers Paradise Primary School will welcome cyclists taking part in the 1000km Chain Reaction Bike Challenge with funds raised introducing Better Buddies into NSW and QLD schools.

The annual Chain Reaction Challenge is taking place from 7–12 March and will see a group of 42 executives cover a grueling 1000km from Port Macquarie in NSW through to Noosa, QLD. The bike challenge will raise much needed funds for the Starlight Foundation and The Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

A total of 164 schools throughout Australia are participating in a Cybersafety and Wellbeing Pilot thanks to funding from the Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Schools in the Pilot are enthusatiastic about the Initiative because it will help tackle the issue of cybersafety.

One year has passed since Darcey Freeman was tragically killed

And it is with heavy hearts we remember the terrible circumstances in which such a young innocent life was taken.

After her death, it was the wish of Darcey's mother and her family for there to be a national celebration of children; for there to be some positive out of such a terrible tragedy. At the family's request, the Foundation made their wish a reality with Children365.
