Loose the roly-poly belly, add a roaring motorcycle, a leather
jacket and a bit more attitude and you sure do get a Santa with
a difference.
This Saturday (17 December) more than 15 Patriots Motorcycle Club
riders will take the role of Santa, delivering Christmas presents
around Melbourne to children who are victims of violence, including
physical and sexual abuse, as well as sudden family loss.
The Patriots, who are serving and ex-members of the Defence Forces,
will help The Alannah and Madeline Foundation staff deliver nearly
1000 presents this year in the Foundation’s seventh Christmas
giving appeal.
The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s Children Ahead Manager,
Debbie Cook, said the level of support the Foundation had received
for its appeal was overwhelming. “Many people take for granted
that Christmas is a time for giving and receiving, but often the
children we assist do not receive any presents,” Mrs Cook said.
“We attempt to bring some joy into their lives and the present
delivery by the Patriots adds to the fun.”
Various retailers, companies, community organisations and individuals
donated the presents for the appeal.
The Alannah and Madeline Foundation was established in honour
of two little girls who were among 35 people who lost their life
in a killing tragedy at Port Arthur in Tasmania on 28 April 1996.
The Foundation assists children who are victims of crime or who
have experienced the sudden loss of a family member.
