The Alannah & Madeline Foundation (AMF) announced
today that Dr Judith M. Slocombe has been appointed Chief Executive
Officer of the Foundation.
Dr Slocombe will take over from Andrew Chappell who has been
with the Foundation for over three years. Mr. Chappell recently
accepted the position of CEO of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund,
which supports more than 200 hospitals and charities across Melbourne
The Foundation’s expansion under Mr. Chappell’s leadership has
resulted in a large increase in the number of child victims of
violence being given assistance. By the end of 2005, over 1000
children will be receiving ongoing assistance from the AMF.
The Chairman of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, John Bertrand
AM, said today: “Andrew has done a remarkable job in shaping the
expansion of the Foundation from service delivery though to developing
a multitude of annual fund-raising events – the most renowned
of which is the Starry Starry Night gala charity ball which is
expected to set another record this year.
“ The Foundation is entering a new phase with the departure of
Andrew and the arrival of Dr Judith Slocombe, an outstanding leader,
and we can only grow and profit from these changes.”
Dr Slocombe comes to the AMF with extensive experience in the
corporate environment with her most recent position being the
Group General Manager, Pathology, of the Gribbles Group.
Throughout her career, Dr Slocombe’s work has been recognised
by numerous prestigious awards, amongst them Australia’s most
highly regarded award for women in business, the Telstra Australian
Business Woman of the Year.
Dr Slocombe also holds numerous directorships, two of which are
the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation, (VicHealth), and the
Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
”I had a vision of starting my own business, of growing that
business to be a leading player in its field. Once my dream became
reality I set myself another goal, to be a successful leader in
a large corporate organisation... I am now at a point where I
am looking for a new challenge, one which aligns with my values
and which will allow me to make a difference in this world,” said
Dr Slocombe.
