| latest news News Release - 19th October 2005 The Alannah and Madeline Foundation (AMF) has extended congratulations and best wishes to HRH Crown Princess Mary and HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark on the birth of their son on Saturday the 15th of October. Crown Princess Mary is the new International Patron of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, and the AMF joined with the international community in celebrating the arrival of the newborn Prince. The Foundation's Better Buddies Program, which aims to reduce bullying in schools by teaching children to care for one another, has arranged for its mascot, Buddy Bear, to be custom made and sent over to Denmark for the Prince. “We wish both Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik well and hope their new son enjoys our gift of the ‘Buddy Bear’ mascot,” said AMF CEO, Andrew Chappell.

In accepting the Foundation’s invitation to become its International Patron, Crown Princess Mary expressed strong interest in the Foundation’s initiatives, one of which is the Better Buddies Program. The Program teaches children to care about the other children around them. It delivers a very positive and effective anti-bullying, anti-violence message. Crown Princess Mary said bullying was “a cruel and senseless act” which could lead to life-long personal problems for many of its victims, their families, as well as the perpetrators. “It has no place in society and every endeavour should be made to remove it from social behaviour,” she said. In conjunction with the Better Buddies Program, AMF is also holding
the 2nd annual National Coalition Against Bullying conference
on the 29th and 30th of October. It is attracting national and
international speakers in addressing the issue of bullying and
seeking solutions to overcome the issue of where one child in
